Functional nutrition counseling specializing in IBS, SIBO, digestive disorders and leaky gut.
Chronic constipation. A belly that looks pregnant by the end of the day. Foods you’ve enjoyed for years suddenly leaving you feeling uncomfortable.
Maybe you’ve started relying on a mental list of “safe foods”—the ones that won’t leave you bloated, rushing to the bathroom, or uncomfortable for the rest of the day. Maybe your digestive symptoms are impacting your social life and you’re dreading dinner plans. Or maybe you’ve simply come to accept that feeling uncomfortable after eating is your new normal.
It doesn’t have to be like this.
Persistent digestive symptoms deserve more than guesswork and endless food restrictions. With a personalized, root-cause approach, targeted nutrition strategies and functional testing can help identify potential triggers, address underlying contributors, and support better digestive function. While eliminating foods at random or following a generic low-FODMAP diet may offer some relief, these approaches don’t always address the underlying issue or provide lasting results. The goal isn’t to keep eliminating foods—it’s to understand what’s causing your symptoms in the first place.
More than just gut health
Your gastrointestinal tract does so much more than just digest and absorb food. It is home to a vast microbiome that has a wide-reaching impact on the body. Here, 70% of the immune system resides. The gut is also where a large percent of serotonin and dopamine are made. Furthermore, the gut-brain axis exists as a powerful network of nerves that connect your brain and gut together sending signals back and forth. This connection influences factors such as mood, food noise, digestion, gut motility, food sensitivities and immunity.
Other body systems can be negatively affected when there is compromise or disease in the digestive tract. In the literature, gut dysfunction has been linked to:
Hormonal imbalances, particularly estrogen dominance
Metabolic issues such as insulin resistance and obesity
Skin issues such as acne, rosacea and eczema
Mood disorders including anxiety, depression, and ADHD
Immune dysregulation and auto-immune disease
Resolving issues in the gut can have a far-reaching effect on these other body systems for the better.
A Walk-Through of Our Process:
1. History & Symptom Mapping
We begin with a thorough 70-minute initial session to review your digestive and medical health history, eating habits, symptom patterns any prior GI work-up you’ve had done. We aim to pinpoint the surrounding circumstances of when your digestive issues began to help determine the most likely cause and triggers.
2. Functional Testing for Deeper Insight
From there, we decide if functional stool testing would provide helpful information. We use the GI MAP to give us a DNA-level picture of your microbiome, inflammatory and immune markers and digestive capacity. We also can provide recommendations for any standard testing that should be done through a GI physician.
3. Build Your Personalized Protocol
We use your history and lab data to create a personalized diet and supplement protocol based on the 5Rs of Functional Medicine for Gut Healing. We believe in giving your gut what it needs to heal through reducing inflammatory inputs, calming the nervous system and helping repair the intestinal lining while rebuilding a healthy, robust microbiome.
4. Adjust and Fine-Tune As Needed
We continue meeting on a bi-weekly or monthly basis to provide additional support and guidance as you start implementing the protocol.
The protocol is adjusted and fine-tuned as needed over time as you walk through the process of healing. We strive to make this as simple and straight-forward as possible to reduce unnecessary stress.
